Attach receipts to your transactions
Keep proof of every expense attached to the transaction it belongs to, so your records are audit-ready without a filing cabinet.
Every property generates paperwork, and the piece you actually need at tax time is proof of what you spent. Porchyard keeps that proof attached to the transaction it belongs to, so you are never digging through email to justify a deduction.
Attach a receipt
Open Transactions, find the expense, and open it. Use Attach Receipt and pick the file from your computer or take a photo on your phone. Common formats such as PDF, JPG, and PNG are all supported.
Give each file a clear name so you recognize it at a glance -- for example
2026-03 Roof repair - Maple St rather than scan_0042.
Keep things findable
A little discipline now saves hours later:
- Attach as you go. Add the receipt the day you pay a contractor rather than saving it in a pile.
- Attach to the right transaction. A receipt on the wrong expense is as good as lost.
- Name consistently. Lead with the year and month so files sort naturally.
Why it matters
When you categorize a transaction, having the matching receipt one click away makes your records audit-ready. Open a business expense with no receipt attached and Porchyard flags it right there on the transaction, so you close the gap while you are already looking at it rather than hunting for it before tax time.
