Sign-in and two-factor authentication

Porchyard protects your financial data with two-step sign-in: your password, plus a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. This guide covers signing in, resetting a password, and the second factor.

Sign in

Open the Porchyard app and sign in with the email address and password you chose when you created your account. If two-factor authentication is set up, Porchyard then asks for the code from your authenticator app.

Reset a forgotten password

On the sign-in page, choose Forgot your password? and enter your email address. Porchyard emails you a link to set a new password. The link expires, so use it soon after it arrives.

Set up two-factor authentication

Every account owner sets up a second factor before using Porchyard, because an owner can see and change the whole account. The first time you sign in you see Set up two-factor authentication:

1. Install an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.
2. Scan the QR code with the app. If you cannot scan it, type the setup code shown under it into the app instead.
3. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, and choose Verify & Enable.
4. Save your recovery codes. Porchyard shows them once. Each code works one time and lets you in if you lose access to the app, so keep them somewhere safe, such as a password manager.

Lost your phone?

On the code step of sign-in, choose Use a recovery code and enter one of your saved codes. Once you are in, set up the authenticator app again on your new phone.

You can see your second factor, generate a fresh set of recovery codes, or turn two-factor off under Profile Settings -> Security. Turning it off asks for your password and a current code, so a signed-in browser alone cannot remove it.
